do the hustle!
It feels like there’s a lot going on this month! It *is* Black History Month, so maybe that’s got something to do with it. I’m trying to fit in as many workshops as possible, and will do two tomorrow at a nearby public school (love a gig I can walk to!). This Saturday I’ll be participating in the Kids Heart Authors Valentine’s Day event at The Voracious Reader. If you’re in the neighborhood, do drop in…there’s exciting news about BIRD that I can’t yet reveal, but it means another shiny sticker for the cover of our book–that’s FOUR altogether! On the self-publishing end, I learned an important lesson yesterday; I got an email from a literacy coach who’s interested in sharing A Wish after Midnight with her peers; they needed ten copies ASAP, and I only had 3 copies on hand…because I use a publishing on demand service (lulu.com) I couldn’t just snap my fingers and make 7 more copies of my novel appear; instead I had to pay a whopping surcharge to have the books printed and shipped in one day. But I’ve been invited to attend their meeting on Friday, and will hopefully make a successful “pitch.” I prefer to let my writing speak FOR me, but sometimes the book can’t represent you–you have to represent your book! So wish me luck…
