gremlin

I’m having one of those days…felt a migraine coming on last night so took some meds just before bed; woke up feeling fine, but then the headache returned–bleh!  Took some more meds, and still managed to get out the door in time to catch my former prof at Brooklyn College during her morning office hours…except her office hours have changed, and apparently the department secretary I talked to isn’t aware of that fact…but I figured, well, there’s a Target nearby so I’ll just go there and get the office supplies I need to put together a press packet for A Wish After Midnight.  I get to Target and the racks are bare–no plain two-pocket folders, just a bunch of wildly-colored folders that are loose but can only be purchased in packs of ten.  I go upstairs thinking I’ll at least get some ink for my printer; the girl at the register has never heard of HP, but I find the ink aisle and the cartridge I need is nearly $50!  So I leave Target empty handed and resolve to take the train to Atlantic Center, where there’s an Office Max.  I just catch the train before it leaves the station, but find myself on a car that reeks of unwashed bodies…I try to remain absorbed in my book, and am relieved when I reach Atlantic Station.  Got everything I needed at Office Max, including a generic ink cartridge for half the price; stopped at Starbucks and bought a sandwich for lunch…got home, ate half, and dropped the other half face-down on the kitchen floor (and no, my floors aren’t clean enough to eat off of).  I decide to make a cup of tea and print some things out; insert my new cartridge, my pretty purple paper, and the printer eats both sheets.  Is there a gremlin lurking about?  The headache hasn’t returned, so that’s good.  And I can always go back to see my former prof next week.  Tonight Shadra receives her Ezra Jack Keats Award at the NYPL.  I’m hoping I can get down there without any mishaps!  Had a wonderful lunch yesterday with Lyn Miller-Lachmann, and came home filled with ideas and possibilities.  I’m *so* grateful for people who freely share their knowledge and experiences; I’m still so new to publishing, and it helps to get a sense of how other publishers work, how awards are granted, who can help and who ought to be avoided at all costs.  My list of things to do keeps on growing, but it’s cool AND sunny out–the lilacs are blooming in the garden–and “in the end, everything will be ok.  If it’s not ok, it’s not the end…”
