Just One More Book!

Yesterday I got a lovely email from Andrea Ross of JOMB–half of a Canadian couple who go to their favorite coffee shop three times a week and record their discussion of great children’s books–what a great idea! They’re now starting to make videos to accompany the audio recording, and so Shadra and I sent all kinds of photos and sketches for the BIRD podcast being taped today. Check it out:

Yesterday I had to sift through my gigantic folder filled with rejection letters from various editors…an agent who’s considering “repping” me needs to know which editors at which presses have already reviewed my work. It was sort of disheartening to read so many emails and letters praising my writing but rejecting my stories. Makes me think of this one editor who told a story of a school visit where she took two stories for the children to read: one from the slush pile, and one from a project she was actively turning into a book. And which story do you think the children preferred? The one from the slush pile! Anyway, the system does work sometimes b/c there are beautiful books available right now. But sometimes I wonder how many of the stories *I’d* like to read never even got serious consideration…
