When asked to name their favorite African artist, people gave answers that ranged from author Ben Okri to Afrobeat musician/activist Fela Kuti…I’ve had Fela’s music in my head ever since, but remembered a new artist another respondent mentioned: Asa. Check her OUT—I just bought the album…

Hi! Thank you for recommending her, she sounds amazing! I love how her lyrics have meaning to it; the story she's telling is incredible. To be honest, I have never been exposed to this genre, but I'm glad. I really like it. Her beautiful voice rings in honesty and life, and I completely love that fact about her. It's hard to find true, real music nowadays, but I love discovering it. All in all, I thank you so much! Do you have any other information about her, a website maybe to learn more about her?

Hey, Kiki--here's her mySpace page:

I found out about Asa while watching a great film called This Is My Africa; I wrote down her name, found this video, then bought the entire album and it's *excellent*...there are some short videos on You Tube, and I recommend watching all ten minutes of "So Beautiful" live....
