CORA diversity roll call
I chose to feature a good friend of mine, Rosamond S. King–poet, artist, scholar, performer…this poem is from her chap book, Codeswitching, and I like it because it speaks to the fatigue I feel at times, but also the legacy of strength and resilience we all inherited from our ancestors. You can buy Rosa’s other book of poems, At My Belly & My Back, on Amazon.
another day
sometimes you just get tired
carrying all the things in your hands
all the people on your back and
you stumble
keep going
you cannot fall you
cannot cannot
fall
think of the people
men and women who thought your back was strong
cutting their feet on the earth’s stones
babies rolling into the mud
