Daring

It’s nearly 3am, and I’m just back from a very long teaching day in Massachusetts…but I wanted to share this link to Just One More Book’s great website–they’re the Canadian couple that reviews children’s books every other day in their local cafe.  Last week Mark interviewed me by phone while I was up in Toronto, and he just posted part of that interview on their site:

The rest of our conversation (which was great!) can be heard by signing up for their monthly newsletter.  It feels strange to hear my voice and know that that really is me, I really did say those things, and I meant all of it!  I *do* wish the publishing industry showed more daring, and *was* more transparent.  I *would* like to know just who the gatekeepers are–who is it that determines which books make it onto the shelf?  I’m exhausted, but will write more in a few days–we’re heading to Atlanta to do a school visit and book-signing event for BIRD at Shadra’s alma mater!
