mixed blessings

Ididn’t get quite as much writing done as I’d hoped, but today was still a great day! Rosa and I went to Cozbi’s boutique on Court St. in Brooklyn and marveled at her gorgeous quilts, pillows, baby bibs, kids clothes, and one-of-a-kind women’s attire. After harassing her with endless questions about the dollmaking process, I noticed a painting on display that had appeared in one of Cozbi’s picture books. “Do you like it?” she asked, and as soon as I said yes, it was mine! In the past three months I’ve acquired several original pieces of art–how exciting! I have to share it with you, of course; it’s the end sheet for Beauty, Her Basket by Sandra Belton.
The other highlight of my day was coming home to find an email from my great-uncle (white) who, after reading my memoir, wanted to encourage me to forgive racists since they’ll never change and accept Jesus Christ as my “personnel Savior.” If I don’t find a job soon, I really WILL need a personnel Savior! Enjoy your weekend…
