my cousin recalls

the compliment I gave her

twenty years ago

we couldn’t have dreamt

she would land in Korea

half a world away

I cling to Brooklyn

and the opportunities

Canada denied

now she takes time to

compliment me, my haiku

reaching her in Seoul
