Gurl, you're funny. My close friends and anyone who has ever asked, know my name. LOL

Maude, I feel naked. And don't worry, I won't tell people how relentless you were that I cooperate. The series says writers.

I realize I'm loud and all over the place, but I do not like the spotlight. Still, the topic is so me. Thanks, Zetta.

It's me--I call you Susan all the time!

I don't like the spotlight either, but we should find another word for it b/c really, the emphasis is on VOICE--and THAT is something I'm not shy about. Any opportunity to share your point of view is a chance to connect with and inform and learn from others...and there is NO shame in that, right? We didn't drag you into a pin-up calendar; it's a discussion about how literature and literacy combats racism. This feature creates a nice balance between the "take no prisoners" Susan of the kidlitosphere and the passion that drives you to be so relentless.

See, this is how you convinced me to respond. Who can resist an argument like that. You are the best and if you needed me, too, I walk on hot coals. You rock.

Now I can't stop picturing Zetta convincing women to do a pin up calender.

"This will be good." "Trust me." "Empowerment, Empowerment, Empowerment" "Now pose."

Maybe one day. but for know I will tell you what I hear alot. You know you look like that singer. You know the one. (And yes I always know you they're talking about.) She sings that song Driving in a Fast Car. Tracy Chapman has had many songs since that but that's the one everyone knows.

i LOVE Tracy Chapman with all my heart and soul. she's such a talented lyricist/singer. Talking 'Bout a Revolution is one of my favorites... what a voice! you look like Tracy? what can i say, Doret? black women are devastatingly beautiful. i'm jealous! in my next life, i want to be chocolate colored with locks.

Talking Bout a Revolution is a great song. Favorite Chapman album is New Beginning. Mayra what about your next life as a Black Domician?

Did anyone notice Susan's feature as the most comments so far 24, it would've been 25 but my last one didn't go through.

Zetta, how are you finding everyone?

Mostly from books I've seen reviewed on your site or Susan's...if the author lists an email address on their website, I send a standard query letter outlining the series and our general intent; I link to Amy's blog so they can see what the features look like, and then I list the 3 questions and ask them to respond within a week. Today Francisco Stork replied!!!! Some folks don't respond at all, but most say yes, and if they can't do it, I ask them to recommend an alternate. Not sure how long I'll keep going...I think we've got enough folks for at least another week. You'll love Matt de la Pena's response...and I finally got a Native American author who's able to participate, too. Don't have any Middle Eastern authors, and the ones I got from your site only have publicists listed on their websites...but am excited by the folks who ARE on board.
