   For the record, if you come to Chicago you are going to have to introduce me to the all the happening author/ writing events because 99% of the time, I miss them.

   Also, I met Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie at Printers Row Lit Fest! I blogged about it but basically she is an amazing speaker and I can't wait to read Purple Hibiscus :)

   I really hope the new York public libraries get enough support and funds to keep them running just as well/smoothly. it really stinks that one of the first budget cuts is for the library.

   I watched C-Span almost ALL day, hoping I'd see Chimamanda (or you!). It was mostly boring stuff, though...she's an amazing author, and I'm so glad you met her AND asked about writing for young readers. Her subject matter is mature, but she's also quite expert at subtlety...and you know she won a MacArthur "genius" award, right? I was at a book launch party this afternoon and her name came up as a favorite author...

   Ari, did you meet any other others, or go to any other events? Yeah, if all public libraries did it like the Brooklyn public, it would be hard to cut their funds! Don't get me wrong, the ones here are great, but you won't read about them taking authors into classrooms like they do in Brooklyn!

   There were no cameras that I was aware of in the room with us so I'm sorry you wasted a lot of your day watching CSPAN =/ I didn't know she won a genius grant but I'm not surprised.

   @Edi-I only met Chimamanda and then I wandered around checking out each stall but it was chilly and rainy and I didn't feel much like staying. I wanted to hear Roland Martin, but I think he was running late and Colson Whitehead was speaking too far from me =/ The biggest problem was that I got there late because I had to take the ACT that morning so I missed the beginning of most of the author's speeches.

   Chicago libraries have some author events for kids (and a ton for adult writers), but not many featuring authors of color for middle or high school students.
