Writers Against Racism

There’s a great new series over at Amy Bodden Bowllan’s blog at School Library Journal: it’s called Writers Against Racism, and we’ve asked members of the kidlit community (educators, editors, authors, bloggers, librarians) to answer these three questions:

Briefly describe the impact racism had on you as a young person.
Has your personal experience of racism impacted your professional work as a writer/educator?
In what way can literature be used to combat the effects of racism and promote tolerance?

Stop by, read the provocative responses, and feel free to leave your own answers in the comments.  Yesterday the spotlight was on Laura Atkins, former editor/academic and author of that great paper on white privilege, and today it’s on Neesha Meminger, author of Shine, Coconut Moon.
