good news

Just heard that Bird made the 2009 Bank Street College Best Children’s Books of the Year list!  Normally there would be a ceremony soon, but it’s been postponed until October.  Still, nice to know we made the list.  It is unbearably hot here in my garret office, so I can’t stay long; will just pen a haiku and note that Lynda got back to me: I was right, the African Civilization Society did advocate for emigration to Liberia.  Whew!  I told Lynda I’m sort of worried some male historian somewhere down the road will call me out and insist I’ve got my facts mixed up.  She reminded me that even if I’m right, some male historian will likely call me out anyway…Spent some time at my former neighbors’ home this evening–such a loving space, filled with two friendly cats, a beautiful 3-year old, her leftover birthday balloons still bobbing up by the ceiling, and a newborn, Sembene, floating from lap to lap.  I’m not good with babies, so I offered to hold him next month, but he’s a darling all the same…
