Last spring, Mosaic Magazine put out a call for proposals for their Literary Freedom Project, which is designed to facilitate the use of literature in the NYC Social Studies curriculum. Unfortunately, the project was pushed back, but Mosaic still offers other literature lesson plans here. Amy Bodden Bowllan has posted my proposal,”‘Liberty and Justice for All’: Writing the Fight for Freedom,” on her blog. I never wrote the actual lesson plans for this course since the project was pushed back, but I do wonder whether that white teen would have set a black classmate on fire if he’d been taught tolerance at home and in the classroom…
