   Really, still, damn. I wish I could say, I can't believe this story but with this countries history how can I not. I wish my mind was built to disbelieve this ugly crime but being Black I don't have the luxury.

   I feel so bad for that young man.

   I *love* that song! I teach the version she performed at Carnegie Hall, and the white audience starts out clapping and laughing but then realizes this "show tune" has a hard edge to it...Nina really lets them have it. I guess we need a remix: "Missouri Goddam"...

   Zetta: I just reposted this story on FB. I live in Kansas City, Missouri and hadn't heard ANYTHING about it. The ignorance runs down so deep, the hatred that has been sewn into the fabric of the world is tremendous. I would really like for someone to speak to the offender. He is sixteen years old, what is in his mind, what beliefs and where did he learn them? Time doesn't solve this. Legislation doesn't either. Only education can. My father was killed in 1981 by three white assailants here in Kansas City. At first, they were acquitted by an all white jury then a civil rights law came to light that allowed the case to be retried on the grounds that he was killed at a public federal park. We are all human beings. This must be taught and now. To the ones who set others on fire. To the ones that look the other way. To the ones who believe their voices or stories don't matter. There is a way....

  I thought of you when this story came out--and I only heard about it b/c Amy posted it on FB...I have a few friends in Missouri, and no one has commented, so it seems to definitely be off the radar. I *know* there would be at least some outrage if people only KNEW...
